Do you have childhood memories of being in the kitchen with a parent or grandparent? Most of the underserved children we mentor in our cooking programs aren’t fortunate enough to have these kitchen memories or favorite family recipes passed down through generations. Preparing a meal is often a skill learned as children growing up. However, with the evolving nature of family structures, and the growing number of households in poverty, family meals made with love are something most of us take for granted.
The Cookery Project successfully conducts programs with Wilmer Hall Children’s Home, the Department of Human Resource's Foster Care Program, The Historic Avenue Foundation, and the Girl Scouts of South Alabama. Moving into the new year, we have plans to expand our impact to include partnerships with The Boys and Girls Club, and various title one schools. Our fundraising efforts will allow us the capacity to do so.
